Is Monstershuffler free?

Yes. We may add content available only to patrons in the future, or add a paid tier for advanced features, but the core tools will always remain free.

Do I need an account?

No. You can browse and generate content without an account, but signing up lets you:

• Save your monsters and NPCs to your personal library.
• Organize your creations with the file manager.
• Share your creations with the community.

Can I use content from this website elsewhere?

It depends on where it came from:

• NPC Generator output: the generated stat blocks, backstories, and descriptions are free to use anywhere, no license required. Be mindful, however, that some rule terms and descriptive text may be the intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast.
• Community-published content: each publication has its own license, displayed on its page. Always check it before reusing someone else's work.
• Images: artwork attached to monsters and NPCs may carry a different license than the stat block it accompanies. Check the image credits for details.

Which editions are supported?

Monstershuffler currently targets Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Both 2014 and 2024 versions of the stat blocks are supported, and the stat block format can be switched in the Theme settings.

What is your stance on AI?

AI is a sensitive topic in the tabletop community, and for good reason. Many creators worry about their craft (and in some cases their livelihood) being devalued by a click of a button.

Our position is straightforward: AI is a tool to enhance, not replace, human creators. The website will always prioritise and promote human-made content, especially on community pages.

That said, we won't dictate how you prepare for your own table. If AI helps you flesh out an NPC five minutes before a session, use it. No judgment. We may even offer AI-powered tools down the road with that exact use-case in mind: speeding up personal prep so you can spend more time at the table.
